Gorgeous photo shoot created by the Glamourai and shot by Jamie Beck. I’m usually more drawn in by fashion than beauty or accessories, but the set here is what blows me away. With the headpiece and eye makeup tied for a close second.
And then of course my perpetually interior focused mind is thinking about how i could utilize those tissue paper crumpling skills for a ceiling or wall installation.

Jak & Jil just seems to have best and most dynamic street style photos on the web. Sartorialist, yes, catches many an Anna dello Russo headpiece, but somehow Scott Schumann’s medium distance snaps of Italian men wearing two blazers at once, or slouchy top-bun girls on Crosby St. just doesn’t make you want to get dressed in a new, awesome way, which I believe is really the best quality a street style image can have.

For  Example…there are a few things here that I would normally be meh-ed by, or worse. Camo. Graphic tee. But I couldn’t stop looking at this image. I think it was a bit that I liked the pattern of the shirt and was intrigued by the nonsensical layering. And probably not uninfluenced by the very Thomasian (of Thomas & O’Brien) pomade lacquered hairdo.

Zero desire to wear a clear rain hat with dangling chandelier bits, but the swing of the coat, the dapperness of the shoes and pants combo, and then of course the a-bit-knowing-a-bit-gleeful smile. Can’t look away

Seeing Double

Every once in a while (especially since the dawn of Pinterest) I’ve been catching myself creating my own little decor micro trends. Just this morning I realized I’ve got a bit of a thing for Rorschach-esque inkblot motifs. A few examples I wouldn’t mind calling my own.

A series of china mugs and plates by Culture Label that feature hidden animal images (a horse, butterfly, rabbit and fox). 20 British pounds each.

The new Poolside collection from Eskayel, quite logically features a lot of reflected designs. Seen here in the Chelsea apartment of Taylor Tomasi-Hill on APT by LSD.

And then reading the February issue of Rue magazine (pg. 90), I came across this little framed piece in a home office. I’m not sure if it’s meant to be an ink blot, or perhaps a winged person, or two people facing one another. Perhaps that mystery makes it an ink blot all the more.

Serge and the Not-So-Secret Source

Working at a magazine where you’re bombarded (willingly, of course) by beautiful images of spaces conceived on unimaginable budgets can be a bummer for your real person apartment decorating plans. An interior designer friend recently pointed out that he’s stumped when peers ask for good, insidery decor sources. We both shop at Ikea, CB2 or the Brooklyn Flea. Hardly secret. The companies that we regularly work with are beyond inaccessible when it comes to our own lives, so I’m always thrilled when having an ear constantly to the ground in the world of interior design comes in handy.

I’ve become a lover of Serge Mouille lighting, which pops up over and over in AD homes. Most recently in Ellen’s awesome ping-pong foyer.

And in this image, which has got to hold some record for most reblogged/pinned.

While I will likely never own one of these guys, I did find a nice little substitute on sale (20% off) at West Elm for $199. Not a bad look at all.
